Remembrance Sunday services are being held across Leicestershire and Warwickshire today

Services are taking place in Loughborough, Hinckley, Nuneaton and Coalville.

Residents from Leicestershire and Warwickshire are invited to Remembrance events today to honour those who served and lost their lives in wars and conflicts.

Loughborough 

The Remembrance Sunday service will take place at the Carillon Tower War Memorial in Queen's Park, Loughborough.

This year’s Remembrance Sunday Parade will start from the Market Place at 10.20am and make its way through the town centre and to the Carillon, where the service will start at 10.50am.

The service will be led by The Reverend Elizabeth York, Acting Chaplain to the Royal British Legion, Loughborough Branch and Chaplain to the Loughborough Schools Foundation, and The Right Reverend Saju Muthalaly, Bishop of Loughborough.

To prevent a build-up people trying to access Queen’s Park through the New Street gates following the parade, the gates will be closed at 10.30am to the public to enable the Civic Party and Community wreath layers to process into the park.

Hinckley

The service will be led by Reverand Ian Hill of St Mary’s Church and will take place at the Argents Mead War Memorial and will begin just before 11am. 

There will be a parade from the hospital car park on Mount Road to the war memorial before the service. Following the service, there will be a parade down Castle Street, through the Market Place - where a salute will be taken - and into St Mary’s Road, where the parade will disperse.

All are welcome to attend both the service and the parades, and anyone planning to come along is asked to ensure they arrive at the memorial gardens by 10.45am.

Coalville

The parade leaves Christ Church at 10.30am passing along Hotel Street and High Street.

Then a two-minute silence and wreath laying ceremony will take place at the War Memorial in Memorial Square.

During the two-minute silence, poppy petals will be released from the top of the Memorial Clock Tower to honour of those who served and currently serve in the armed forces.

To allow for the parade to pass along Hotel Street and High Street, a road closure will be in place on Sunday 12 November from 10 am until 12 pm.
