Police are still trying to piece together what exactly happened.
At around 11.30pm on Sunday 11 July, officers received a report that a car on Stephenson Way had left the carriageway.
Officers attended and found a silver Kia Picanto abandoned. It was then recovered.
Soon after, officers received a report from East Midlands Ambulance Service that a woman was being taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary reporting she had been involved in a collision.
The woman remains in hospital in a stable condition.
PC Neil Ochalek said: “We are continuing to establish the circumstances of the collision and believe the car was travelling from Whitwick Road in the direction of Broom Leys Road at the time of the incident.
“We also believe another vehicle attended the scene to pick up those involved in the incident.
“We would like anyone who may have seen the car being driven in the area around the time of the incident, or anyone who has any dashcam footage from the area at the time or who has any other relevant information to please get in touch.”
