103 years since the official opening of the Carillon Tower and War Memorial.

Today marks 103 years since the official opening of the Carillon Tower and War Memorial.

Located in Queen’s Park, the tower is a memorial to those from Loughborough who lost their lives in the two World Wars and other conflicts since.

The 46-metre-high tower was officially opened on 22 July 1923. The tower houses 47 bells, crafted by John Taylor Bell Foundry in Loughborough.

It is not only a place of remembrance, but also a place preserving local history thanks to the museum located there and run by a team of dedicated volunteers. Regular carillon recitals are also held, filling the park with the sound of bells.

We must never forget all those that sacrificed their lives, so others could live in freedom. 🤍
