Armed officers deployed to park in Earl Shilton

A 16-year-old has been arrested.

Leicestershire Police received a call at around 3.30 am this morning (Wednesday 7 May) regarding the concern for welfare of a teenage boy in Earl Shilton.

Leicestershire Police said: "Officers attended the location of the call in a park area off High Street and found the boy armed with what was described as a knife and a firearm.

"Trained negotiators were deployed to the scene alongside armed officers, who attended in the interest of public and officer safety.

"Due the nature of the incident and circumstances presented at the scene, a decision was made to discharge a baton round.

"As a result of this, the boy sustained bruising to his leg and did not attend hospital."

A 16-year-old youth has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He has since been released on bail.

The investigation continues.
