Police were called to Station Road in Market Bosworth on Thursday after a child was hit by a car.
It happened near St Peter's School. Officers said they were called at 3.16pm to reports of a road traffic collision.
The boy was taken to hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Leicestershire Police said a 45-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision and failing to provide a specimen and remains in custody.
