Police were called at around 1pm (11 Feb) to reports of a potentially hazardous material found at a premises on Baxter Gate in Loughborough.
Officers responded to the business premises, alongside East Midlands Ambulance Service and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue.
Police said "Further tests will be undertaken in due course, but the substance is believed to be salt and the call was made with good intent."
Cordons and the road closure that was put in place has been lifted and the public were allowed back in to nearby buildings.
Police said they would like to thank everyone for their response and co-operation during the emergency response.
