"Tony was a very caring person who helped others battle addiction"
A man who died in a road traffic collision in Loughborough on Friday 7th July has been named as Anthony Smith.
47-year-old Tony, died after the bicycle he was riding is believed to have been struck by a silver Audi S3 in Ling Road.
Mr Smith’s family said: “Tony was a very caring person who helped others battle addiction, which he himself overcame. He loved the outdoors and keeping fit and over the past few years Tony lived life to the full – from skydiving to kayaking.
“He will be greatly missed by this family, especially his mother, brother, sister and his niece.”
Officers were called to the incident shortly after 8 pm on Friday 7 July. Mr Smith was found with serious injuries and despite the efforts of ambulance services he died at the scene.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident after the car believed to be involved left the scene and was later found on fire on Frederick Street.
Following enquiries, a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a 40-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
The 29-year-old man has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries while the two arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released under investigation.
