The Tennis Leicestershire Awards 2018 was held at Leicester Tigers Welford Road Stadium
Desford Lawn Tennis Club, who under take the project in partnership with Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, were presented with the award for its comprehensive provision, across all ages, encouraging players with special needs to play and progress. The Club have delivered regular outreach sessions at special schools in the area and hosted disability coaching days, tournaments and competitions. The club supports ‘Come and Try It’ events for people with special needs as well as supporting Special Olympic group tennis sessions at Green Towers in Hinckley.
Executive Member for Sport and Leisure at the Borough Council Councillor Maureen Cook said “I am delighted that Desford Lawn Tennis Club won this award. It is a great reward for the fantastic work the club undertakes making tennis accessible for everyone and I would like to congratulate the club, its coaches and volunteers for winning this prestigious award.”
The Club now moves forward to the Midlands awards event in June where they will be up against other county winners. The Midlands winners will then be invited to Wimbledon in July for the announcement of the overall national winners.
