The Hazardous Area Response Team is at the scene

Emergency services teams are treating patients in Nuneaton town centre after reports of people feeling unwell.

Three ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team were called to the scene.

The ambulance service said they were called to Newdegate Street at 12:26 p.m.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We were alerted at 13:54 on Tuesday 29 August to reports of a hazardous substance in the Nuneaton Branch of Santander on  Newdegate Street in the Town. Two crews attended the scene from Nuneaton and, on arrival, found a 12m x 7m building consisting of 3 floors, with the presence of hazardous gas and an unpleasant smell throughout. 

Crews remain at the scene helping to ventilate the property. Warwickshire Police have put in place a precautionary safety cordon around the location."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find ten patients complaining of feeling unwell.

“One of them, a man, was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to George Eliot Hospital in a stable condition.

“The remaining nine patients, six women and three men, were assessed and discharged at the scene.”
