Lloyds Bank has confirmed its Hinckley branch will now stay open for a year longer than planned.
Earlier this month, the bank confirmed it would be closing two Leicestershire branches – Hinckley and Coalville – as part of wider changes to its high street network. At the time, customers were told the Hinckley branch would shut on 10th June 2026, followed by Coalville on 23rd June 2026.
However, in an update to Fosse 107, Lloyds has now confirmed that while Coalville will close as scheduled, the Hinckley closure date has been changed to 17th March 2027.
A spokesperson said:
“Customers want the freedom to bank in the way that works for them and we offer more choice and ways to manage money than ever before. In addition to our app, customers can visit the local Post Office or Banking Hub in Hinckley once it is up and running. Customers can also use any branch of Lloyds or Halifax and deposit cash at PayPoint locations. We're giving our customers the flexibility to bank wherever and whenever they need us.”
Coalville Closure to Go Ahead
The bank has made clear that there will be no change to plans in Coalville, with the branch set to close on 23rd June 2026.
Customers who use the Coalville branch are being encouraged to consider alternative ways to bank, including online services, telephone banking, and nearby branches. Lloyds has previously said that the majority of customers now use digital services for everyday transactions.
The closure will leave residents needing to travel to neighbouring towns for in-person banking services, something that has raised concerns in communities across the county where physical branches continue to disappear from the high street.
Hinckley will now close nine months later than planned
Lloyds told Fosse 107 that all branch closures are subject to an independent industry assessment by LINK. As part of this assessment, a new Banking Hub has been recommended for Hinckley by LINK. Following this assessment the Hinckley branch will now close on 17th March 2027.
Part of Wider Banking Changes
The closures form part of a broader restructuring across the UK banking sector, as major banks continue to reduce their physical presence in response to changing customer behaviour. In previous statements, Lloyds has pointed to a significant decline in counter transactions and a growing preference for mobile and online banking.
Despite this shift, concerns remain about the impact on elderly customers, those without reliable internet access, and small businesses that depend on in-branch services.
What Happens Next?
For now, Coalville customers can expect their branch to close on 23rd June 2026 as planned.
In Hinckley, customers will be able to use the local Lloyds branch in The Borough until 17th March 2027.
