Loughborough’s town centre public toilets have received a platinum rating at the annual Loo of the Year awards.

The toilets at Loughborough Market Place, are looked after by Charnwood Borough Council staff and have now received a Loo of the Year award for 21 consecutive years.

Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, the Council’s lead member for economic development, regeneration and town centres, said: “I am so pleased to see the hard work of the cleaning staff recognised at the Loo of the Year awards.

“These toilets offer a vital service in the town centre for visitors and traders who use our local businesses and market and the Council is proud to operate them.”

The Market Place toilets are open seven days a week and include baby changing facilities and a disabled toilet.

Jeanette Woolley, public convenience supervisor at the Council, has been maintaining the toilets in the town centre for 20 years.

Jeanette said: “We are delighted to once again be recognised at the Loo of the Year awards.

“I am proud to be part of the cleaning team and we work hard to ensure that the toilets are maintained to the highest standard possible.

“Thank you and well done to everyone in the team for this much deserved award."

The team at the Market Place toilets also received a ‘Washroom Cleaner of the Year’ award. They have won this award every year since 2003.
