The M1 in Leicestershire is closed northbound between J19 (Catthorpe Interchange) and J21 (Leicester).
National Highways England has reported that the collision involved vans and cars.
There are also reports of an oil spillage and there is approximately 3 miles of congestion on the approach to J19.
Leicestershire Police were called to the collision at 13:10.
Two vehicles have stopped at an angle on the central reservation barrier.
Leicestershire Police, Fire, Ambulance Services and National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene.

Drivers are advised to follow the hollow circle and square diversion symbols on road signs:

Exit the M1 at J19 and join the M6 westbound
 - 
  
Exit the M6 at J1 and take the 3rd exit on to the A426
 - 
  
At Gibbet Roundabout, take the 1st exit on to the A5
 - 
  
Travel on the A5, here the diversion symbol will be a hollow square
 - 
  
Exit the A5 on to Stretton Baskerville Roundabout
 - 
  
Take the 5th exit on to the M69
 -
