Man jailed for 11 years for aggravated burglary in Nuneaton

The 70-year-old victim was threatened with a claw hammer.

Ricky Aucott, 32, was found guilty following a trial at Warwick Crown Court.

The offence took place in the early hours of 14 October 2020 at a house in Ivanhoe Avenue.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Jeni-Leigh Gore from Nuneaton Proactive CID said: “Aucott is clearly an extremely dangerous offender who subjected a vulnerable man to a terrifying ordeal."

Aucott rang the front door bell and when the victim – a man in his 70s – answered he forced his way in causing the victim to fall over.

Aucott then threatened him with a claw hammer demanding to know where his money was, this lasted around 10 minutes before Aucott fled the scene with cigarettes when the victim pressed a panic alarm.

Despite the amount of evidence against him, Aucott denied the offence in interview and in court.

Following his conviction he was sentenced to 11 years’ in prison with a further three years being served on licence.

Detective Constable Jeni-Leigh Gore said: “Despite the weight of evidence against him, Aucott subjected the victim to a trial and has shown no remorse for his actions. I am pleased he has been given this lengthy custodial sentence as a result.

“I would like to praise the victim who has shown great bravery in supporting this investigation and ensuring Aucott pays for his crimes.”
