A new website has launched to help pet owners choose safe and licensed animal services in Charnwood.

In 2018, the Government introduced new licensing regulations and a national star rating scheme for animal establishments.

Building on this framework, the creators of the Scores on the Doors food hygiene ratings have developed a new online tool called Paws on the Doors, which goes live for Charnwood on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

Paws on the Doors will allow pet owners to make informed decisions when selecting licensed animal businesses such as kennels, catteries, dog day care providers, dog breeders and more.

Consumers can easily check whether an operator is properly licensed and see the star rating issued by Charnwood Borough Council.

The service enables consumers to find safe, reputable and high‑quality businesses to care for their animals.

All information displayed on the website is supplied directly by the Council’s regulatory services teams and presented in a clear, user‑friendly format at www.animal-licensing.uk.

There are currently 84 animal establishments and licensees signed-up to the scheme in the Charnwood area, with more being added in the lead-up to the launch date.

Councillor Beverley Gray, Lead Member for Licensing and Regulatory Services, said: “We are pleased with the launch of the Paws on the Doors website, and we expect it to have a significant impact on animal licensing.

“The scheme will encourage businesses to work towards the highest possible standards, helping them attract pet owners from across the borough and beyond.

“We saw how Scores on the Doors dramatically improved compliance with Food Hygiene regulations, and we anticipate similar improvements for animal welfare through this new tool.

“We encourage pet owners to visit the website when it launches, and to find the very best people to care for their beloved pets.”
