Detectives investigating a fatal collision on the A46, in which a 33-year-old man died, have issued a fresh appeal for information.

It happened on the southbound carriageway, just north of the Hobby Horse roundabout, at around 11.40pm on Thursday 27 September. The two vehicles involved were a black Volkswagen Golf and a silver Toyota Yaris.

The driver of the Volkswagen subsequently died at the scene. Police can today (Wednesday 10 October) name him as John Lee, from Sileby, Leicestershire.

The driver of the Toyota suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment and was later discharged.

Detective Constable Pete Davies, of the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “Today I’m asking for anyone who was travelling on the A46 that night to cast their mind back.

“I’m particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the collision take place, or who saw either vehicle prior to the collision occurring.

“I’d like to ask anyone who may have information, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, and who has not yet come forward to contact me. Likewise, if you have dashcam footage that you think would assist with my investigation, then please give me a call.”

Anyone with information can contact DC 1761 Davies on 101, quoting incident 710 of 27 September.
