Police were called to close the road while it was cleaned and the tree removed.
The tree is believed to be a Chilean Pine, or Monkey Puzzle tree and looks to have been dead for some time.
It was found in the afternoon of May 6 on Carr Lane, Shepshed.
In a tweet Charnwood Borough Council said,
"Do you know someone who has had this type of tree cut down or trimmed last Thursday?

"This was dumped in the area around Carr Lane, Shepshed early afternoon on May 6 resulting in Police closing the road, Highways clearing for safety and our waste contractor having to remove it.
"If you know anything about it please call the contact centre on 01509 634564 or email cleaner.greener@charnwood.gov.uk and they will get back to you."
