Around 6,500 handmade knitted poppies have been used to create two striking displays in Loughborough, as the town prepares to remember those who lost their lives in conflict.
Trees in Queen’s Park and along the Forest Road Greenbelt have been decorated with the poppies, creating eye-catching tributes ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
The displays are the result of a community effort, with support from a number of local groups and organisations, including Loughborough in Bloom, Forest Road Greenbelt Gardeners, Charnwood Borough Council, idverde UK, Friends of Queens Park, Loughborough Ladies WI and Purple Pumpkin Patch.
Various local scout groups and other volunteers have also helped bring the project together.
Adding to the displays, children at Watermead Day Nursery have painted recycled bottles to resemble poppies, which have been placed around the bottom of the trees.
The Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Colin Hamilton, and Mayoress Emma Lowe, attended the installation to see the displays.
Queen’s Park will also be the setting for Loughborough’s annual Remembrance service on Sunday, November 8, when people will gather to pay their respects to the fallen.
