Leicestershire County Council is warning residents about a scam which tries to trick students.
The Student Loans Company has let people know about the scam texts and emails which tell students that their student loan has come in and to click on a link.
However, this link could disclose personal details or install malware.
As well as this, scammers are also using fraudulent phone calls, social posts and direct messaging on digital platforms to contact students.
Residents have been warned that if they are suspicious of being contacted, always use official phone numbers, your online account and official communication channels to verify the contact you received is genuine.
