Charnwood is set to be transformed into a giant game

The activity will run from October 6th to November 3rd.

Part of Charnwood is going to be transformed into a innovative physical activity game.

Beat the Street is being funded by National Lottery funding from Sport England.

The game works by turning an area into a real-life game and residents will soon start to see special sensors called Beat Boxes on lampposts around the borough.

Councillor Leigh Harper-Davies, lead member for community support, said: “We are incredibly excited to be bringing Beat the Street to Charnwood. We know that one of the best things people can do right now for their physical and mental health is to move more and to get out into green space where possible, and Beat the Street really helps people do just that in a safe way."

Players can join a school or community team, or can set up their own with a minimum of 6 players.

Participants then walk, run, cycle or scoot between the 30 Beat Boxes which are half a mile apart – hovering the fobs or cards as they go.

The further players travel, the more points they score.

Prior to the game, primary school pupils from participating schools will be provided with fobs, while parents and teachers will receive a card from the school so they can accompany children.

The wider community can pick up a free contactless card from a distribution point listed on the Beat the Street website.
