Community groups offered Snibston Land

The site was protected by campaigners when the museum was closed by the council in 2016 which means local groups can bid.

Community groups are being invited to make applications of interest after Leicestershire County Council registered its intention to sell land at Snibston Country Park.

The former Snibston Discovery Museum site was registered as an Asset of Community Value by Friends of Snibston before its demolition, and this means groups must be notified of Leicestershire County Council’s intention to dispose of the land.

Groups now have six weeks to register their interest in the land and if accepted they would have six months to raise the money.

Snibston Discovery Museum closed in July 2016 with the demolition of the building completed in April of this year.

Potential bidders have until Tuesday 14th November to express an interest in the site by writing to the Community Focus Team, Council Offices, Whitwick Road, Coalville, Leicestershire. LE67 3FJ.

To be eligible to request being treated as a possible bidder for the asset, a community interest group must have a local connection and have one or more of the following structures:

  • A charity
  • A community interest company
  • A company limited by guarantee that is non-profit distributing
  • An industrial and provident society that is non-profit distributing
  • A parish council.

It will be the responsibility of any bidder to arrange funding, seek to come to an arrangement with the owner and be responsible for all associated costs.

Good Luck!
