A police investigation is underway after a car hit four people on De Montfort Street, Leicester, in the early hours of this morning (31st May).
Emergency services were called at 12:34am following reports of a fight in the area, shortly before the collision occurred. Four people – two men and two women – were injured. One man sustained minor injuries, while three others remain in hospital with serious injuries.
A 31-year-old Leicester man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody and is being questioned.
Initial enquiries suggest the victims and the suspect had all been attending a private event nearby before the incident. The car believed to be involved was later found and recovered from Margaret Street.
Detective Inspector Jenny Tattersall said:
“We understand the serious concern there will be about this incident... We do ask that people do not speculate about this incident, including on social media, in order to allow a thorough investigation to take place.”
A large police cordon remains in place on De Montfort Street as forensic teams continue their investigation. Officers are also in the area to speak with members of the public and provide reassurance.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Leicestershire Police on 101, quoting incident number 27 of 31 May.
