The horse ran onto the M69 and was travelling the wrong way down the carriageway.
Roads around Hinckley were congested this morning after an incident on the M69.
Warwickshire Police said: "We were called at around 7am to reports of a horse running up and down the road, being spooked by cars."
"The horse ran onto the M69 and was travelling the wrong way down the carriageway.
"Traffic was stopped at 7:24, and by 8 am, officers and a number of members of the public had managed to contain the animal."
National Highways West Midlands has confirmed that both carriageways are now open on the M69 between the M6 and J1 for Hinckley.
