Visiting restrictions are in patients because of an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.
Restrictions to two ward bays are currently in place on the Alexandra Ward while we manage this outbreak of sickness and diarrhoea. We are aware that similar cases are being seen in the local community which unfortunately is usual for this time of year.
We are urging family and friends to avoid visiting the affected areas wherever possible. Restricting the number of visitors in these areas will help us contain the virus and stop it spreading any further in the hospital and the community. However, visiting on compassionate grounds may be possible at the discretion of the nurse in charge. Family members have been informed.
If visitors have any questions then they are welcome to contact the wards directly via the hospital switchboard on 024 7635 1351 to check before a visit. People can also view the list of contact numbers for each department on our website.
The ward areas will be reviewed on a daily basis and any further updates will be made available on our website www.geh.nhs.uk.
All visitors are asked to help us to protect our patients and staff by not visiting the hospital if you are feeling unwell, especially if you have symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting or flu. If you are or have been suffering from these symptoms please do not attend the hospital until you are 48 hours symptom-free unless you need urgent medical attention. If you are unwell and require advice, please contact your GP or NHS111.
If you are entitled to a flu jab please contact your local GP.
