Long delays after M1 crash

There are long delays in Leicestershire on the M1 due to an incident affecting the north and southbound carriageways.

A crash occurred between a car and a van.

The M1 was closed in both directions at 13:35pm and Leicestershire Police, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, East Midlands Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance Service responded at the scene.

There is confirmed oil and fuel spillages on scene.

National Highways said “Traffic caught within the closures is being turned around and directed off the motorway via the previous exit slip. National Highways Traffic Officers are dealing with traffic management.”
Some drivers reported being stuck in traffic for more than three hours.
