The M1 between junction 21 and 21a was closed today (Saturday 6th October). Two people were found injured on the carriageway. One person has since been pronounced deceased and the second is in a critical condition.
Officers attended the scene on the northbound carriageway of the M1 motorway in Leicestershire following a report that two people had been found injured.
The M1 between junctions 21 and 21A was closed after a call to Leicestershire Police was received just after 2.10pm this afternoon (Saturday 6 October).
Two people were found injured on the carriageway. One person has since been pronounced deceased and the second is in a critical condition.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident are in the very early stages but at this stage it’s not believed that any vehicles were involved.
Both carriageways were closed for a short time to allow for the air ambulance to land. Three lanes on the southbound and two lanes on the northbound have since been re-opened.
Anyone travelling towards the area is being advised to seek an alternative route while emergency services deal with the incident.
