Around 30 local clubs, charities, community groups and organisations are set to come together under one roof in Shepshed next weekend for a free community open day.
St Botolph’s Church will open its doors on Saturday, October 3, giving local residents the chance to discover the wide range of activities, support, volunteering opportunities and community groups available in and around the town.
The event will run from 10am until 2pm, with something on offer for people of all ages and interests.
Groups representing everything from sport and leisure to arts and crafts, children and families, health and wellbeing, community support and volunteering will be taking part.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the people behind the organisations, find out more about what they do and potentially discover a new activity or group to get involved with.
The event follows the success of a similar Community Open Day held at St Botolph’s in 2023.
Organisers Glennis Wilcox, Joshua Wilcox, Jemma Atkin-Barrett and Jade Atkin are hoping this year's event will build on that success and bring even more of the local community together.
Jemma said:
“We wanted to create an opportunity for people to discover just how much is going on in our local community.
“With around 30 organisations taking part, visitors will be able to meet the people behind these groups, find out what they offer and hopefully discover something new.”
The open day is also part of St Botolph’s commitment to becoming more outward-facing and strengthening its links with the wider Shepshed community.
Alongside the community groups and organisations, visitors will be able to enjoy refreshments, including bacon cobs, sausage cobs and vegetarian options.
Organisers say the event is open to everyone and there is no need to book in advance.
