Darren Looby committed the offences in Loughborough between 2011 and 2018.

He was convicted last month in Leicester Crown Court for eighteen offences against a child, at one time when they were under 13, over the span of seven years.

Looby, of Chilwell in Nottingham, is also subject to a 12-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and an extended licence period of four years.

The victim in the case was a child when the abuse began, but came forward to report matters to police three years ago. Following the disclosures made an investigation, led by the force’s Child Abuse Investigation Unit (CAIU), began.

Detective Constable Emma Burrows, from the CAIU’s non-recent team, said: “I am pleased that Looby is now serving a significant custodial sentence and hope this will provide a degree of closure to the victim.

“I also hope the fact he’s been jailed for his crimes – the first of which happened 10 years ago – will encourage any other victims of sexual abuse who have not yet come forward to speak out and seek justice.”
