Loughborough pair who threatened a man with weapons jailed

Graham Carr, 35, and Tom Lord, 34, both of Lily Close in Loughborough, have been sentenced to 90 months imprisonment each after previously pleading guilty to aggravated burglary.

On the 23rd of May 2022 the victim, who is in his 20s, was at home in Loughborough when he heard a number of loud knocks on his door.

About 20 minutes later there was further banging at his door leading to the bottom of the door being smashed open.

The victim went to his bedroom to call the police. A few seconds later, the bedroom door opened and a man wearing a mask and reported to be carrying a meat cleaver came through the door followed by two other men wearing masks.

The victim asked the men what they wanted – with one of the men saying they wanted cash.

The victim grabbed some money and his debit card and threw them at the men. The men grabbed the money and card and left.

The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.

Police attended the scene and extensive enquiries, including CCTV enquiries, were carried out which led to the suspects being identified. The suspects were arrested in July last year and charged with aggravated burglary.

Detective Constable Jo Turnbull said: “The victim of this offence was left terrified in his own home. Carr and Lord showed absolutely no regard for the victim as they burst into his home and demanded money. I thank the victim for his bravery during this investigation and hope this sentence helps him in some small way.”
