Passengers using rail services between Rugby and Nuneaton on 11th June 2026 faced major disruption after a lorry collided with a railway bridge in Bedworth
The impact caused significant damage to the bridge, forcing the immediate closure of the line while Network Rail engineers carry out detailed inspections and assess the extent of the structural damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Train services operating on the West Coast Main Line through the affected area experienced delays, alterations, and cancellations throughout the day as engineers work to ensure the route can be safely reopened.
Network Rail Assessing Damage
Engineering teams from Network Rail conducted comprehensive assessments to determine what repairs were required.
Martin Ball, Infrastructure Director for Network Rail's West Coast South route, said:
"This collision has caused significant damage to the bridge and our teams are working hard to understand the extent. There will be ongoing disruption to train services through this area while we assess the bridge.
"We are working closely with our partners to keep passengers on the move wherever possible but anyone travelling should check on train operator websites or National Rail Enquiries for the latest information."
