A family who painted an England football mural on a wall in Nuneaton are raising money to buy a vital medical equipment.
Just days after it appeared, three lions on a wall in Nuneaton is becoming quite the tourist attraction.
A local family decided to create the spectacular artwork to raise money to buy medical equipment for their local community in light of England’s success in getting to the final of Euro 2020.
Kate Williams set up the their fundraising website but said the initial inspiration came from her husband.
"He had a dream after the semi-final and he wanted to build something amazing on our wall. People would come and queue down the street and this would be like their 1966" (when England won their only major international trophy).
"It's all about making memories", she told Fosse 107.
They were certainly right about the queues as this was the scene in Bull Ring on Sunday afternoon, just hours before the match against Italy.
Kate also said that the queues show just how important art can be to communities like Nuneaton.
As well as the funding page, they're also taking cash donations and they said their last check on Sunday saw over £3000 in the pot.
"People are just so generous. Nuneaton has got a lot of heart and I think we should celebrate that", Kate said.
They are edging ever closer to their revised target of £10,000.
Kate said on their site:
“After years of dreaming football is coming home. Win lose or draw there is no doubt we are in a moment of absolute history and to celebrate we have commissioned an amazingly talented artist Nathan Parker to create an art piece on our home wall at the Bull Ring, Nuneaton in honour of the England 2020 euro team and their undoubted success.”
“We would love you to celebrate their success and due to the circumstance with Denmark’s Christian Eriksson we thought it would be amazing to raise money to purchase a defibrillator for use in our community.”
