It happened between junction 22 and 23 northbound.
An electrical fault caused a Nissan Quashqai to catch fire the afternoon, causing delays on the M1.
The nearside lane was closed to protect the safety of fire crews.
Fire fighters from Birstall and Loughborough were sent after they received the call at 13:50 this afternoon.

It did not appear to be that serious an incident however, with Leicestershire Police's A-shift tweeting,
"Avast!! There be tailbacks on the M1 North between j23 & J23a. Fear not A shift are back and the shipping lanes will soon be clear."
The lane was reopened just before 3pm.
