A group were caught trespassing in the derelict building "out of interest" but police say they put police safety at risk.

Hinckley Police have issued a warning after a group of people were found trespassing in a dangerous, derelict building in Hinckley.

An officer posted on the force Facebook page  after being called out to reports of a break in on 28th December.

The post read: "This afternoon I attended Hinckley's derelict old cinema after reports of multiple persons were seen entering. Four males identified themselves to me and admitted they had entered through a broken window, but did not cause any damage and were there purely "out of interest". I urge anyone who has this temptation to think twice as the internal foundations of this building are extremely dangerous and can cause serious harm."

The officer then posted an internal picture of the building which shows the decay of the cinema.

The post continues, "The flooring has been eaten away by damp and wood rot, broken glass and loose nails are scattered all over the location. As this was reported as a break in progress, numerous response officers (including a dog unit) were deployed and ultimately not needed. Furthermore, we had to put our own safety at risk and search the building to ensure no other persons were in there. Please think, before you do. Thanks Adam 6105."

Hinckley's cinema opened in 1937, part of a chain, with 1250 seats. In the 1970s it was rebranded and in 1973 it was turned into a three-screen cinema. Cannon Cinema closed down in May 1993. The site later became a sports bar but has been disused for more than ten years.
